chestnut + zinc
Location: SAINT AIGNAN (56)
Project: Renovation and extension of a private house
Scope: Full Architectural Service (Mission Complète)
Area: 260 m² (including 92 m² extensions)
Planning Permission: 2020
Completion: February 2022
This project involved the renovation of an existing longère, the complete remodeling of an adjoining barn, and the addition of two extensions.
To preserve the original character of the principal façade, the larger extension—providing two storeys of sleeping accommodation—was positioned on the north side, overlooking the main garden.
Both this larger extension and the smaller southern extension are clad in zinc and chestnut. The transformed barn was retained as a double-height space, with a mezzanine providing access to the first-floor bedrooms in the extension.
The main volume offers an open-plan living, dining, and kitchen area, with the adjoining smaller extension opening up the stone facade and creating an built-in seating area as well as a sheltered entrance, and flooding the main living area with natural light.
Heating and hot water are provided by an air-source heat pump, with underfloor heating throughout the ground floor.
